In the wake of the release of Red Alert 3 -the purchase of which in my humble opinion was a total waste of 50 bucks- I'd like to take you back to the original Command & Conquer: Red Alert and all its gritty, gutsy glory. Yessiree, those were the days when there was no co-commander crap, no teletubby tooltips and no namby-pamby here's-how-to-do-it cutscenes... Like, EA, what the f#@k have you done to this game?!?... Lemme tell ya, I am seriously p!ssed about the way that- Ooops.. Sorry. I digress. (*ahem*)... Like I was saying (heh heh...) For those of you who enjoy classic PC games, here's a new mission I wrote for the original Command & Conquer: Red Alert called 'Jackpot'. It's a Soviet-on-Soviet mission with several units modded and it takes place on a map I created from scratch using the Red Alert Map Editor (and a few other modding tools). HOW TO DOWNLOAD AND INSTALL THE JACKPOT MISSION You can download the mission here (free!): majorslack.com To install and play the mission, simply unzip the downloaded zip file and then copy the scu-0001.mix file into your Red Alert game directory (typically this is C:\WESTWOOD\REDALERT). To play the mission, run Red Alert, click on 'Start New Game', select 'Normal' difficulty, select 'Soviet' and you're off to the races. (The downloaded zip file contains a Readme.txt file with the same instructions.) To uninstall the Jackpot mission, simply delete the scu-0001.mix file from your Red Alert game directory. This mission has been ...

I've been a huge fan of the Command & Conquer series right from the get-go back in the mid-nineties. (However don't ask me how I like the new Red Alert 3 as I'm liable to go ballistic on ya. Waste of 50 bucks as far as I'm concerned.) Anywho, I decided to try my hand at modding, the product of which is my new Jackpot mission for the original classic PC game, Red Alert 1. Featured in this video is a demo of Part 2 of this mission. You can read a full overview of this mission on the Part 1 page ( www.youtube.com ). Along with a couple other modded units which appear later, this mission starts you off with a special General soldier unit equipped with a rapid fire missile launcher without whom which you probably wouldn't survive the first ten minutes. However, if the General dies, the mission fails (ie, game over immediately) so use him wisely. The same goes for the Tanya you get later on. Also, most of the civilians on the map are not your typical peashooter-packing pussies but rather are HEAVILY ARMED and EXTREMELY DANGEROUS. If a squad of these hellions gets loose in your base, you're likely to get pretty f#@ked up. At 1:06 in the video, you can see one of them take but a split second to annihilate a V2 Rocket after which he promptly chewed up half the health bar on a heavy tank. (And then thankfully he got run over.) OTHER MISSION NOTES (read: FAIR WARNING) 1) This is a Soviet vs. Soviet mission. (Allied countries play small subsidiary roles.) 2) Free parabombs from the ...

Red Alert 1 soundtrack by Frank Klepacki. The song is called Hell march. In my opinion the best red alert track and probably the most well known one too. Originally intended for use with the Brotherhood of Nod, it features militaristic samples—including marching, industrial sounds, and a commander shouting what sounded like "We want war, wake up!"—but actually a German drill instructor shouting "Die Waffen legt an!", roughly translated as "Ready weapons!". My quick guide: - Download Red Alert 1 on official EA site (free): www.ea.com - Use magiciso or Daemon tools to mount the iso file of the first disc. - Download, install and run Red Alert Setup Manager v0.98 (link: ra.afraid.org ) - Install the game using this program and the mounted cd.(install patch 1.08 to avoid a kernel error) - Repeat for the second disc. - Go to the installation folder of Red alert 1 and right click the .exe file, go to properties and compatibility. There you need to change the compatibility mode to windows 95. :) Need the music? ra.afraid.org © Westwood Studios/EA, all rights reserved. Command & Conquer is a trademark of Westwood Studios/EA. For the first time, I look at a game suggested by one of my viewers. Not only are both of these games classics that helped popularize the real-time strategy genre, but they are nowalso both free to download as legal DRM-free ISO images.

ever wanted to replay your fav pc game but long since lost the disk? heres a few tips to help. it can go toward any pc game really, halo2 is only used as an example. you'll still need your cd keys unless you get a crack or something. (framerate shouldnt matter for this as the point isnt about halo) 1:get an image burning software(imgburn/alcohol/ultraiso works) 2:save the files as iso or compress them like I did with winrar 3:get daemon tools to mount the iso or uncompress the installer 4:make sure to keep your key as a txt in the burn or somewhere you wont forget it its legal to do this as long as its your product, but obviously people can use what I described to get it illegally. mini images will be covered in part 2 no idea why camstudio made the screen like it did. mabye the screen cap was too big...

shows how to use imgburn and daemon tools to mount mini images to start games to so your cd can stay in the case and not get lost or scratched. 1:get imgburn and daemon tools 2:make an iso from your games' files/cd 3:under tools in imgburn, click "create dvd mds file" as shown (0:26-0:35) 4:find the file and click create 5:move it wherever and mount with daemon tools as shown thats all! you should be able to play your game. In case the MDS doesnt work, try loading your ISO, but the larger the file the longer it takes to read. Yuri's Revenge was the example. no idea why camstudio made the screen like it did. mabye the screen cap was too big... Got a request to link to the needed sites, so here they are: www.imgburn.com http
